Yellow corn
An essential feed energy source
Yellow corn is an important animal feed ingredient, rich in energy and easy to digest, used for poultry and livestock. It is included in feeds supporting meat and milk production and is both grown locally and imported to meet demand.
Nutritional composition
Carbohydrates: approximately 70–75%. Protein: approximately 8–10%. Corn also contains fats, fibre and vitamins, especially vitamin A and B vitamins.
Although relatively low in essential amino acids such as lysine and tryptophan, corn can be balanced with protein sources such as soybean meal.
Use in feed
Poultry: corn is used in commercial broiler and layer formulations; the company’s source material indicates it may represent 50–70% of the formulation.
